Informed Consent

This is the consent you give before you upload a raw DNA file. It is separate from the Terms and the Privacy Policy.

What the report is

My Gene Story writes an educational report from the raw DNA file you upload, on everyday traits such as nutrition, fitness, and sleep. It is not a medical diagnosis. Talk to a doctor before you act on it. The report does not tell you whether you have, will have, or are free of any condition.

What depends on the file

Your report is built from the raw DNA file you upload (23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA and others). Each provider and chip version tests a different set of markers, so some sections may be limited or unavailable for your file. Maternal line (mitochondrial DNA) results depend on how many mtDNA markers your provider includes. Paternal line (Y-chromosome) results need a Y chromosome in the sample, so they're only available for genetically male files whose provider includes Y markers. This report is for information only. It is not a medical diagnosis and doesn't replace advice from a doctor or genetic counsellor.

Your right to upload

You confirm that you are 18 or older, and that this is your DNA file or you have permission from the person whose DNA it is. Do not upload a child's file.

Who handles the file

My Gene Story, powered by The Gene Box, handles the file. The file is used to produce the report you asked for. The company behind My Gene Story, and the services that store or send the file, are named in the Privacy Policy.

How long the file is kept

We keep your DNA file so you can unlock more reports without uploading again. Email ask@mygenestory.com anytime and we'll delete it within 30 days.

Email ask@mygenestory.com anytime and we'll delete your DNA file within 30 days. We delete every copy within those 30 days.

Uploads from before 17 October 2026: deleted 30 days after we deliver your DNA Story, including copies in email attachments we received. If you ask, we delete it sooner. We keep the file only if you ask us to.

We never sell your DNA data.
